I very vividly remember the first time I "declared" what I wanted to do with myself when I "grew up." Before photography, before being a mama (which was my career of choice as a little girl), I wanted to be an obstetrician. Little did I know in my early high school years, that there was much work entailed in achieving a degree in the medical field in general; much less, a doctor. (Extends a pat on the back to all of you hard working medical personnel out there!)
So, when I decided to take this creative outlet and passion of photography to a different level and make it a staple part of my life and our income; I knew that I would have to envelop my love and interest in delivery into it somehow. It's a scary genre to branch into. It's fast paced and it's exciting and it's unpredictable. There are a lot of precautions and much preparation that have to be considered and executed prior to stepping out. But, when I received my first inquiry a few years back to be in the delivery room of a Cesarean section, I jumped at the opportunity. And, just as I thought I would be, I was hooked.
Delivery room photography is a different kind of rush. Witnessing one of God's greatest miracles, first-hand, is breath-taking. I always feel a step closer to Heaven in that moment. It was of utmost importance for my husband and I to hire a birth photographer when we were expecting our little girl. We carefully set aside the money to do so and I will never, ever regret having Holley in our room that day.
When one of my best friends contacted me and asked if I would be a part of and photograph her second child and first son's birth, I happily obliged! What an honor. And, what an experience!
Beth was an absolute goddess in the birthing room. Lucas entered this world quickly and loudly. He had such a strong, distinct cry. An intense labor and rather dramatic experience was quickly justified with his arrival. I can't quite explain what a blessing it was to not only experience birth again but to experience it with such a sweet and special friend.
It goes on the record as one of my best days yet!
Please enjoy just a few photographs from Lucas' big day and arrival into this world. He is destined to do big things and I'm honored to have been there when he graced the universe with his presence.
