Sometimes you're blessed with friendship from birth or a young age. The type of friend you grow up with and you know them inside and out. You know their parents and you attend the same birthday parties and you go to the same church and you celebrate holidays together like family. I have those friends. And, sometimes, you're blessed with the late life friends. That's what I call them. But, when you meet a friend like that, one that holds those same qualities as the friends you've known for ages, you've found a gem.
I'm not quite sure how Mary and I first "met." We were friends on Facebook at some point. Possibly from a mutual pro photog group. Either way, I felt how kindred we were from following her posts; her real life posts. And, on several occasions I thought, "She and I would really hit it off."
And then, somewhere along the way, Mary contacted me for family photos and I asked that she take ours, as well; something I had been wanting to ask for a while. Her style is so, me. And, then we were having a girls' night over good food and conversation, talking about just what we wanted out of our photo sessions. This led into hours of hilarious text conversation and late night giggles. Sometimes, my husband thinks I'm crazy when I bend over clutching my side, laughing at something she's said. She gets me and I can be real with her.
One trait Mary and I share is our passion for realness. Especially in photograph. I'll take your posed photos all day. But, tell me to "just shoot," means so much more to me. I want to shoot the every day, the real. That's what I look for in photographs of my family and of my little girl and, for others to want the same, fills me with the most complete joy.
It was a good session. Full of laughs and stuffed animals and sweetness. I even got a big hug, right off the bat, from little Dean. And, my heart swelled and then just melted into mush. I love him already and I love her family and I love her.
If you're not following My Three Peas Photography on Facebook, you're missing out.
Here's a glimpse into my photo session with Mary and Jake and Lily and Troy and Dean. It's one of my favorites of all time and it will be one of yours, too.
